Rivian has adjusted its loyalty program, making it easier for owners of its first-generation (Gen-1) electric vehicles to upgrade to newer models.

Initially launched on October 1, the program required Gen-1 owners to trade in their vehicles when acquiring a new 2025 model.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker announced Friday that Gen-1 owners in the United States can now receive a $3,500 discount on the purchase or lease of a 2025 R1 Dual Large, Dual Max, or Tri Max vehicle without the need to trade in their existing model.

The updated Rivian Loyalty Offer applies to all Gen-1 vehicles—those manufactured between 2022 and 2024—whether they were leased, financed, or purchased in any configuration.

However, the offer excludes current reservation holders or those with active orders and is limited only to Gen-1 owners.

To qualify for the discount, buyers must take delivery of their new 2025 model by December 31, 2024.

The offer applies exclusively to Rivian’s Gen-2 models, including the Dual Large, Dual Max, and Tri Max configurations. Vehicles equipped with the standard pack are not eligible.

Last week, Rivian emailed new leasing offers for October on its R1S and R1T models with leases for the 2025 R1S Tri-Motor SUV starting at $1,199 per month for a 36-month term.

Last week, Rivian applied for a federal loan to help finance the resumption of construction on its $5 billion electric vehicle factory, located about 40 miles east of Atlanta, Georgia.

Rivian said Friday it expects to produce between 47,000 and 49,000 vehicles this year, down from the previous guidance of 57,000 units, due to a parts shortage.
