Phoenix-based truck maker Nikola Corp said on Thursday that its updated battery-electric trucks have collectively surpassed one million in-service miles across fleets and dealer operations.

The company added that it has delivered 94 updated battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to end fleets and dealers, representing a total of 19 fleet customers. These trucks have logged a combined 1,016,929 miles in service, according to the EV maker.

In June 2024, Nikola reported that its fully electric trucks had accumulated 1.5 million miles. However, that figure included testing, validation, and real-world commercial operations.

The updated trucks feature software and human-machine interface (HMI) improvements, upgraded batteries, improved charging capabilities, and vehicle updates, including scheduled depot charging and better Nikola app user experience.

In mid-November, the company announced a recall of 72 of its 2022-2023 battery electric (BEV) trucks due to a defect in the instrument cluster display. The trucks had been recently re-delivered to the customers following the biggest recall which forced Nikola to fix all units delivered until then.

Nikola’s chief operating officer, Mary Chan, said the company is “thrilled to see our end fleets and dealers making deliveries in our battery-electric trucks.”

“One million end fleets and dealer miles in our updated BEVs are one million zero-emission miles. Nikola BEVs, on the road and in our customers’ hands, continue to help us reach our zero-emission goals,” the executive said in a statement.

The company sold 88 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks in the third quarter of 2024, up 22 percent from the 72 units registered between April and June. For the first three quarters of the year, Nikola sold 200 hydrogen fuel cell trucks, and 235 total since the model went on sale in late 2023.

After having consistently released the data within the first four days following the end of each quarter, Nikola has not yet reported its fourth-quarter production and sales results.

Shares of the electric and hydrogen truck maker have plummeted 33% over the past three trading sessions. In the opening minutes of Monday’s trading session, the stock price hit $1.82. On Wednesday, Nikola shares closed at $1.22 marking a 33% decline since early Monday.

As reported earlier this week, the company’s head of global sales Ryan Clayton said Nikola is looking forward to a “really good” year producing and delivering both hydrogen-powered and battery electric trucks.
