Electric carmaker Nio will serve as the official mobility partner for the Berlin Fashion Week, scheduled to take place from January 31 to February 3, the company announced on Thursday.
Nio will provide 20 shuttle vehicles on the opening day and 25 vehicles on the following days, transporting VIPs between show venues in the German capital as part of its plan to increase brand awareness in the German market. The Berlin Fashion Week will have a total of 31 shows.
“Berlin is a dynamic, multicultural metropolis that serves as a stage for contemporary trends and lifestyles. This urban energy is reflected both in Berlin Fashion Week and in Nio’s presence in the city, which is why we are thrilled to partner with Berlin Fashion Week, Nio’s Head of User Development and Deputy General Manager, Christian Wiegand, said in a statement. “As a partner, we aim not only to provide mobility but also to create a platform for dialogue and innovation.”
The company registered 31 vehicles in Germany in December bringing its annual sales to 398 vehicles, according to data shared by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. Sales fell 68% last year after Germany abruptly halted the EV subsidy in late 2023.
At the Berlin Fashion Week, the EV maker will also host the “METAMORPHOSIS – dialogues about change” series at its Berlin showroom, known as Nio House.
The dialogue series, initiated by the Fashion Council Germany and supported by eBay, will focus on themes including sustainability, digital transformation, and diversity. Experts from the circular economy and fashion industry will share insights on the future of the sector.
“Our Nio House Berlin serves as the ideal venue for the METAMORPHOSIS talk series, offering inspiration and fostering exchange. This collaboration unites our shared values,” Wiegand stated.
The Shanghai-based electric vehicle maker, which entered the German market in October 2022, saw its sales falling 68.5% from the 1,263 units recorded in the previous year. Germany brought its EV subsidy program to an abrupt halt at the end of 2023.
