Electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian has begun deploying its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2024.27, for the second-generation R1 models (R1S and R1T).
The update brings access to new apps such as Apple Music and Audible, a 60-Day Trial of Connect+ and several enhancements.
The EV maker is offering a 60-day trial of Connect+, allowing users to access premium media app streaming capabilities while video app streaming is promised in future updates.
Rivian owners can now use Apple Music directly from the Media app and the Audible app for audiobooks and podcasts with Dolby Atmos being enabled by default for select content.
Regarding power outlets improvements, the new update brings new functionalities including an auto-on feature when entering the vehicle and an auto-off feature upon exit.
Additionally, users can set timers to keep outlets powered after exiting the vehicle, ideal for activities like camping, according to Rivian’s release notes.
The infotainment brings several updates including disabling the incoming call panel during voice assistant use via Bluetooth, adding stars to the 3D cel-shading night themes in Drive Modes and Camping, and fixing issues related to rear visual alerts and 3D vehicle visualizations.
The Irvine-based company also improved the Wi-fi connectivity including now the maintained connection to saved Wi-Fi networks when shifting out of Park, automatic connection to Rivian secure Wi-Fi near service centers, and fixes for hotspot and connectivity issues.
Last week, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe revealed that the company will no longer use Mobileye’s tech in the Gen-2 vehicles.
In an interview with “The InEVitable” podcast, Scaringe emphasized the limitations of Mobileye’s system for Rivian’s long-term goals in autonomy.
