Tesla Model Y has joined the Chinese Government’s procurement list for electric vehicles, as unveiled in the newly published “Framework Agreement Procurement of EVs for Jiangsu Province Government for 2024-2025”.
This marks the first time that Tesla has been included in a government procurement catalog in China.
Joining the Tesla Model Y on the procurement list are a diverse range of other models. These include the Aito M7, the Avatr 11, the IM Motors LS6 and L7, Roewe’s D5X, and Volvo’s XC40, among others.

According to the framework agreement procurement document by the Jiangsu Province Government, the procurement indicators include sedans, SUVs, MPVs, pickup trucks, and buses.
Among these, the price cap for SUVs is set at 250,000 RMB, with a requirement for a pure electric range exceeding 400 km.

Tesla Model Y is the most popular SUV model and seamlessly fits within these criteria with a starting price of 249,900 RMB in China.
As announced earlier this week, Tesla manufactured 410,800 vehicles in the second quarter of 2024, a 14 percent decline from the previous year. Deliveries totaled 444,000 vehicles, reflecting a smaller than expected decline of nearly 5 percent year over year and a 14 percent increase from the preceding quarter.
Furthermore, the upcoming launches and deliveries of the Onvo L60, IM R7, and Avatr 07 in the Q3 underscore the competition in the market, particularly within the 200,000 to 350,000 RMB segment.
Tesla shares have been soaring in the last weeks. On Wednesday, the stock surged by over 6 percent, marking the 7 consecutive trading day of gains and the longest winning streak since June 2023.
Tesla’s chief executive Elon Musk is among the keynote speakers at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai that is being held this week.
At this year’s four-day event, themed “Governing AI for Good and for All,” Tesla will showcase its Cybertruck and the latest generation of its humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2.
