Electric vehicle maker Nio has begun selling used cars on the Danish car marketplace Bilbasen. Denmark is the smallest market for the Shanghai-based EV maker, which has registered 46 units there over the past two years.

As of Friday, the company has 16 vehicles listed, each with between 13,000 and 47,000 km on the odometer, and priced between 280,000 kr and 460,000 kr ($38,900–$64,100).

The listings include models from Nio’s initial European lineup—ET5, ET7, and EL7—which were first launched in the region between late 2022 and early 2023.

The origin of these vehicles is unclear, but they may include lease returns, test drive cars, and press cars and are likely being sold as part of an internal effort to reduce inventory.

According to the platform EU-EVs, Nio registered only five units throughout 2024 in Denmark, down from the 41 vehicles recorded in 2023.

In a new LinkedIn post, the company said this Friday it is now offering “an attractive interest rate of 3.99% for both private and business loans.”

“Right now, we have a wide selection of used cars in stock at attractive prices, including the NIO ET5, ET7, and EL7 models,” the EV maker stated. “Visit us on Bilbasen to learn more about our different models and find the car that suits you best.”

In the Netherlands, the EV maker is currently selling two used vehicles with about 12,000km each. The ET7 long-range (from April 2024) is priced at €48,890 while the ET5 long-range from June 2023 costs €39,490.

Nio entered the Danish (and three other European) markets in October 2022 with the launch of its ET5 and ET7 sedans. A few months later, it launched the five-seat SUV ES7 — named EL7 in Europe due to a trademark dispute with Audi.

EV Sales in Denmark

Of the 17,469 new cars registered in Denmark in December, 61.5% were electric, according to figures from automotive importers’ association Mobility Denmark.

For the full year, 51.5% of the 173,047 passenger cars sold were electric, marking the first time EV sales have overtaken petrol and diesel vehicles in the country.

Tesla remained the top-selling brand, while Volkswagen doubled its figures narrowing the gap. The Chinese carmakers Xpeng and BYD also gained market share, entering the top 10.
