Just before the year’s end, electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors began delivering its second model, the Gravity SUV, to employees, friends, and families last weekend, the chief executive Peter Rawlinson announced on Monday.

Once additional units are shipped to showrooms and made available for test drives, the company will begin customer deliveries in the U.S. while European deliveries are planned to start in early 2026.

“This past weekend we handed keys to the first production Lucid Gravity SUVs off the line to some of our employees, friends and families,” the chief executive wrote on LinkedIn on Monday.

“We are ramping Lucid Gravity production volume in a structured manner to ensure high-quality for our customers. Aside from these earlier deliveries to our employees, friends and families, many of our first production cars are destined for our sales studios and for test drives,” Rawlinson stated. “Once we have produced those vehicles, we’ll start delivering to a broader group of customers. This is just the beginning. Here’s to a remarkable 2025!”

As exclusively reported by EV on November 20, Lucid plans to begin customer deliveries in 2025. Although the company has not announced an official date, sources told EV in November that the timeline was decided amid Gravity’s unveiling at the LA Auto Show in late 2023.

Lucid began pre-production of the Gravity SUV in late July at its Casa Grande, Arizona, factory. On July 31, Rawlinson drove the first pre-production vehicle off the production line.

On October 29, Lucid provided updated production details, clarifying that customer deliveries of the $80,000 version would take longer than anticipated. It also announced that U.S. orders would open in early November. The company said the Gravity Grand Touring, priced from $94,900, is set to begin production in late 2024, while the Gravity Touring, priced from $79,900, is scheduled for late 2025.

At the LA Auto Show 2023, Lucid said Gravity would be “competitively priced in the full-size premium SUV category with an expected starting price under $80,000” adding that production was expected “to begin in late 2024.”

“They knew they would not launch with the $80,000 version when they made the claim in November last year,” one of the sources told EV referring to the Gravity’s unveiling event at the LA Auto Show.

In a note, the company stated that the pricing applied exclusively to the U.S. market, with the $80,000 figure excluding “tax, title, license, options, destination, and other fees,” while addmiting that the pricing was “subject to change.”

To date, the company’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, has not disclosed any order numbers or provided a timeline for the first vehicle deliveries.
