Nio opened on Thursday its first showroom in UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi as it accelerates the global expansion hoping to be present in 25 countries by the end of 2025.
A few weeks after inauguring its first retail store in Israel, the Shanghai-based EV maker has now opened its first store in the United Arab Emirates. In October, Nio announced the formation of a joint venture with its major investor CYVN Holdings, an Abu Dhabi-based investment firm, to expand to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region under the name Nio MENA.
Later in the month, the company held the launch event and already confirmed it will also expand to Azerbaijan next year.
As initially reported by EV in September, the showroom—known as Nio House Abu Dhabi— is located in Galleria Al Maryah Island, a high-end hub in the UAE capital.
At the latest earnings conference call, the company’s founder and CEO William Li revealed that vehicle deliveries have already started in the UAE.
“On November 28th, the first NIO House in the MENA region will open update, and our sales and delivery have already started in UAE. Next year, with NIO products from ONVO and Firefly, the company will accelerate its international market entry.,” Li stated.
When announcing the expansion to the MENA region, the company also unveiled plans to establish local production there, which would become its first manufacturing plant outside China.
Last weekend, the company confirmed it officially launched in Israel earlier this month through a partnership with Delek Motors, as exclusively reported by EV on November 4.
When the company initially expanded to Israel, Nio imported vehicles from Norway. Now, Delek Motors has become its official partner.
