Rivian announced Thursday it is partnering with Patagonia and Sol Systems to promote renewable energy and support the education of younger generations in North Carolina through a Renewable Energy Certificate and Community Impact Agreement.
According to the companies, the collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions while supporting local initiatives by reaching middle school students.
The program will allow students to use advanced robotics kits such as Lego Spike Prime and Parrot Mambo Drones eyeing real-world applications in sustainability.
Funding from this partnership is being allocated to support a 4-H Robotics program, which will provide local middle school students with opportunities to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), according to the companies.
Andrew Peterman, Director of Advanced Energy Solutions at Rivian, said the company is “continuously growing our investments in clean energy projects to create the carbon-free grid of the future”.
“We hope that our Rivian Owner community can take pride in the fact that they are helping support projects such as the Lick Creek Solar project to not only add clean power to the grid, but also to drive local community benefits for Stokes County,” he added
“This project plays a crucial role in advancing our goal of enabling seven billion miles of renewable driving. It not only supports that vision but also fosters STEM education in North Carolina, protects local ecosystems, and enhances clean energy access and affordability,” Peterman continued.
In July 2023, the EV maker had announced a renewable power project in collaboration with BrightNight and The Nature Conservancy in Eastern Kentucky aiming to make the largest conversion of a former coal mining site to a solar project in the United States.
In the third quarter of the year, Rivian delivered 10,018 vehicles — a decline of about 36% year over year— and produced 13,157.
Rivian has recently said it expects to produce between 47,000 and 49,000 vehicles this year, down from the previous guidance of 57,000 units.
The earnings results will be reported on November 7, 2024, after market close with the traditional conference call following at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
