China’s tech giant Xiaomi is expected to complete the expansion of its EV manufacturing plant by mid-2025, local media reported on Wednesday.

The company plans to build its vehicle manufacturing plants in two phases with each one of them targeting an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. Construction of the second plant began last month and is expected to be completed in June 2025.

Once finalized, the second manufacturing facility will be crucial to support the mass production of Xiaomi’s upcoming SUV, internally codenamed MX11.

Xiaomi’s chief executive Lei Jun was seen driving a Ferrari Purosangue SUV earlier this week in China as pictures of Xiaomi’s upcoming SUV indicate a similar exterior design.

The Purosangue was unveiled by the Italian carmaker in September 2022 with Ferrari saying the price would start at 390,000 euros, equivalent to $389,000 by then and to $422,000 by now.

Earlier this Wednesday, Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed he has been driving a Xiaomi SU7 for the last six months adding he “doesn’t plan to give up”. Farley exported the vehicle from Shanghai to Chicago and has praised both Xiaomi and BYD in a new interview.

Xiaomi deliveries surpassed (again) 10,000 deliveries in September as it aims to reach 120,000 deliveries this year. For October, Jun said the company is targeting 20,000 units delivered.

A recently leaked document from Xiaomi’s supplier Bosch revealed that the smartphone giant aims to launch two models in 2025, including the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and its first SUV, internally codenamed MX11.
