With over 2,000 people in the audience, XPeng’s chief executive, He Xiaopeng, launched on Tuesday the brand’s new and more affordable Mona series. Less than one hour after the event, the Guangzhou-based manufacturer announced it has received 10,000 firm orders.
The first model, the M03, is a fully electric coupe targeting a younger audience and marks the first model of a total of ten that will be presented over the next 24 months, as said by XPeng’s President Brian Gu in a media roundtable held earlier this week.
The model starts at 119,800 yuan ($16,812) while the “Max” variant is priced at 155,800 yuan, equivalent to $21,869.
The date for the first deliveries is still unknown as the company believes that the coupe can contribute towards the goal of achieving over 20,000 units sold per month.
MONA, the name of the new series, was described by the chief executive as the combination of Artificial Intelligence and Art — while mentioning, during the keynote, the iconic Mona Lisa painting.

With a drag coefficient of 0.194, the model has now the lowest of its class, as claimed by Mona’s Product expert Luci at the event.
“The capability will be ten times better” when talking about the next generatioon of XPeng’s assisted driving system, known as XNGP.
The model, developed in partnership with China’s Didi, comes with standard features like ambient lighting and pet mode, while additional features, including a driver display, are available for 599 yuan ($84).
The M03 comes with two electric motor options, delivering maximum power outputs of 140 kW and 160 kW with the range reaching 515 km and 620 kilometers, respectively.
