Next Saturday, July 27, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio will host the second edition of its annual tech-focused event, NioIN, in Shanghai.

In a post on Weibo, Nio’s Vice President of Automotive Technology, Bai Jian, confirmed that the highly anticipated Nio Phone will be officially unveiled at the event.

The first edition of the Nio Phone was launched in 2023 aiming to offer better integration with the vehicle at a time when Apple was still pursuing its car project. Last February, the project was scrapped after a $10 billion investment by the tech giant.

As reported by Pandaily earlier this year, the former head of the Nio Phone division, Yin Shuijun, left the company in January being replaced by Nio‘s Vice President and Head of Hardware, Bai Jian.

Earlier today, the company teased the release of more information about its upcoming operating system, SkyOS. At the inaugural NioIN event in September 2023, the company introduced the system which includes features such as assisted driving, intelligent cockpit, connectivity, and mobile internet.

“Nio will host NioIN 2024 on July 27 in Shanghai. Tune in for an in-depth exploration of Nio’s AI-powered smart EVs and a detailed preview of the groundbreaking full-domain operating system for smart EVs, the SkyOS,” the company announced on social media.

The mass production of SkyOS is slated to begin in NT3 platform models, starting with the Nio ET9 early next year.

Additionally, Nio’s first self-developed chip, the LiDAR main control chip “Yang Jian,” will offer enhanced point cloud features for AD, providing superior support for complex scenarios. This chip also boasts higher integration, lower power consumption, and stronger performance, positioning it as a leader in the field of lidar main control chips, according to the company.

Last Friday, the company introduced a new ‘Mars Red’ color for its lineup. The announcement was made via the Nio app in China, accompanied by a photo shoot of the four models standing in front of the company’s biggest showroom — officially named “Nio House” — in the city of Hefei.

Earlier in the week, local media in China reported that Nio was planning to increase prices for some of its best-selling electric vehicles (EVs) in China as it eyes higher vehicle margins. Meanwhile, a salesperson told “The Paper” that the company will reduce some of the incentives it currently has.

In early June, the chief executive William Li said the company targets to reach 20% of vehicle margin in the upcoming platform NT3.
