Shanghai-based electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has introduced on Friday a new ‘Mars Red’ color for its lineup. The announcement was made via the Nio app in China, accompanied by a photoshoot of the four models standing in front of the company’s biggest showroom — officially named “Nio House” — in the city of Hefei.
The ‘Mars Red’ color was initially introduced back in 2018, during the company’s annual event “Nio Day”, when the EV maker launched its second model, the ES6.
This color will be available for Nio’s best selling models including the ET5, the ET5 Touring, the EC6 Coupe SUV, and the ES6 SUV.
In June, these last two models registered 9,300 retail sales combined while the ET5 and the respective touring version registered 7,800 retail sales — according to the data analyst ThinkerCar.
It is currently uncertain whether ‘Mars Red’ will be introduced to Nio’s European markets. The company has not yet confirmed plans for the color’s availability outside China.
Earlier this week, local media in China reported that Nio was planning to increase prices for some of its best selling electric vehicles (EVs) in China as it eyes higher vehicle margins. Meanwhile, a salesperson told “The Paper” that the company will reduce some of the incentives it currently has.
In early June, the chief executive William Li said the company targets to reach 20% of vehicle margin in the upcoming platform NT3.
