A few hours after announcing that the 2025 Lucid Air has become the most efficient electric vehicle in the world, Lucid‘s co-founder and CEO Peter Rawlinson attended the Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech.
Rawlinson commented on the reported financial support from Elon Musk to the former President Donald Trump.
On Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Tesla’s CEO said he is planning to support with about $45 million a month to a super PAC backing former President Donald Trump ahead of the presidential election in November.
When asked about it, Lucid Motors CEO Peter Rawlinson says, “this is another salient example of his level of distraction” adding that it puts the company “four years ahead of Tesla.”
“I think this is another salient example of his level of distraction. Tesla used to have the lead in electric vehicle technology. They truly were the pathfinder. There was an absolute laser focus there. I think that now the mantle has passed to Lucid,” he stated.
Here’s the video from Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech event.
Earlier in the day, the company announced that the 2025 version of its Air Pure can achieve 5.0 miles per kilowatt hour of energy and a record of 146 MPGe EPA rating.

Previously developed for the top variant of the Air sedan the Lucid Sapphire, the heat pump is now standard on the 2025 variants.
“Just this morning, we formally announced a landmark, a technological landmark, that we were able to achieve 5.0 miles per kilowatt hour for an electric vehicle. This is a major step forward in saving the planet. This is the most efficient use of energy achieved by any electric vehicle. We’ve registered also a record 146 MPGe, and these are not claims by Lucid,” Rawlinson said.
“These are validated by the Environmental Protection Agency, and this puts Lucid at least four years ahead of Tesla in what I think is a critical technology race to help save environment,”
The EV maker reported last week the delivery of 2,394 vehicles in the second quarter of the year, while producing 2,110 units, beating expectations from Wall Street analysts.
Lucid scheduled a conference call to discuss its second quarter 2024 financial results on August 5 at 5:30 pm eastern time immediately after releasing its Q2 report.
