According to data released by the German Federal Motor Transport Association, April saw the registration of 243,102 passenger cars, with 29,668 being fully electric.
Electric vehicles comprised 12.2 percent of the total, while hybrids accounted for 75,182 registrations, marking a 26.4 percent increase from April 2023. Of these, 15,135 were plug-in hybrids, constituting 6.2 percent of the total registrations.
Tesla
Tesla’s performance in April saw the sale of 1,637 vehicles, capturing 0.67 percent of the overall market share and 5.5 percent within the electric vehicle segment. This figure represents a 32 percent decline from the same period in 2023, with year-to-date sales (January to April) standing at a 36 percent decrease.
The results mark Tesla’s lowest first-quarter sales in at least four quarters and its lowest monthly performance since 2022. Tesla’s strongest sales month in the German market was March 2023, with 8,703 units sold.
Lucid
Lucid registered 26 units of its Air model in Germany, bringing the year-to-date total to 37 vehicles. In the first quarter of the year, Lucid sales in Germany reached 11 units of the luxurious sedan.
The electric vehicle startup will report its first quarter financial results after the market closing on Monday as it prepares to start producing its second model, the SUV named Gravity.
Nio
Nio, which expanded to the German market in October 2022, registered 53 vehicles in the country. The result marks the second consecutive month of growth after selling 27 units in February and 48 in March.
During the first quarter of this year, the EV manufacturer registered 102 deliveries, a decrease of 25 per cent from the 136 units registered during the same period in 2023.
Last week, Nio announced the introduction of annual interest rate of 0 percent when ordering its most expensive sedan Nio ET7 while the entry-level SUV EL6 can now be leased from €599 per month, including the Battery as a Service subscription.
Nio has currently 5 models available in Germany including two sedans (ET5 and ET7), two SUVs (EL6 and EL7) and the touring ET5T.

Vinfast
Vinfast sold 2 units in Germany for April, a decline from the 6 vehicles registered in March. In mid April, the Vietnamese automaker signed a cooperation agreement with Mobivia to expand the aftersales service network for VinFast customers in France and Germany.
Earlier this year, the Vietnamese automaker announced an EV facility in India following by a dealer agreement for the Middle East region signed in February.
Gasoline-powered cars increased by 18.6 percent, reaching a market share of 37.3 percent of the total while diesel cars increased by 28.2 percent, accounting for 19.1 percent, KBA data revealed.
