Electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio, who expanded to the German market in October 2022, has registered 44 vehicles in June. The result marks an increase from the 35 units registered in May but well below the 145 vehicles registered in June 2023.

While sales continue to miss expectations, the company has seen two of its executives leaving the company in mid-June to join its direct competitor Polestar. One of them was Marius Hayler, the Country Manager of the German market.

Last October, Hayler — who was previously leading the Norwegian market — replaced Ralph Kranz, Germany’s first Country Manager that joined Nio to prepare the market entrance in mid 2022.

Following the departure of Marius Hayler, Nio announced the promotion of David Sultzer — who joined Nio in September 2023 — from Regional Manager to Country Manager.

In a reaction to the extra tariffs announced by the European Commission, Nio has hinted earlier today that an adjustment on the prices “cannot be ruled out”. However, the company says that is maintaining its prices “at this stage”.

“Nio is closely monitoring the ongoing anti-subsidy investigation and resulting measures taken”, a spokesperson told the media outlet CnEVPost earlier today.

“At this stage, Nio maintains the pricing of its current models in its European markets, the company said, adding that it cannot be ruled out that prices may be adjusted at a later stage as a result of these tariffs being imposed,” Nio added.

As Brussels moves forward with the extra tariffs on China-made electric vehicles, Nio says it is “fully committed to the European market”.

“Despite these developments, Nio is fully committed to the European market and believes in fostering competition and consumer interest, and it hopes to reach a resolution with the EU before definitive measures are enforced in November 2024,” the company added.

Nio has recently launched its flagship SUV EL8 in the five European countries opening pre-orders while deliveries are expected to start in September.

Initially launched in China in late 2022, the EL8 has been refreshed with the new Executive variant priced in Germany at €108,900 with battery included and at €87,900 with the Battery as a Service system.
