Tesla’s chief executive Elon Musk is among the keynote speakers at the upcoming World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai on July 4th.
At this year’s four-day event, themed “Governing AI for Good and for All,” Tesla will showcase its Cybertruck and the latest generation of its humanoid robot, Optimus Gen 2.
In the past, Musk has participated online at the last two conferences, with his most recent in-person appearance dating back to 2019.
This year’s conference is expected to draw top scientists, industry leaders, and government officials to discuss advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous systems.
During his previous appearances at WAIC, Musk has lauded China’s rapid progress in AI development and predicted significant advancements in the country’s AI capabilities. At the 2023 conference, Musk emphasized the transformative potential of AI and autonomous driving technologies.

Tesla’s second-generation robot is equipped with in-house designed actuators and sensors, featuring a 2-DoF actuated neck and the ability to walk 30 percent faster than its predecessor, according to Tesla.
In a post on Tesla’s official account on X last month, the company highlighted its milestones since 2018 and unveiled the autonomous deployment of two Optimus robots in Tesla’s factories.
“Deployed two Optimus bots performing tasks in the factory autonomously,” Tesla included in the list.
With an exhibition area spanning 52,000 square meters, the conference will spotlight key areas such as large models, computing power, robotics, and autonomous driving. The event will showcase the latest advancements in “AI+” applications and unveil many innovative products, according to local media.
