Ahead of the US presidential election in November, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump met on Thursday in Atlanta for the first presidential debate.
The former American presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy joined Bloomberg this Friday to comment on the debate addressing also his role in bridging the communication between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
When asked about his role in these conversations between Musk and Trump, he emphasized the common ground they share.
“We all share a belief, all three of us, that we need more of those voices in American politics driving change, not as professional politicians, but people who look at political problems through the lens of an entrepreneur and a business leader, objectively,” he stated.
Ramaswamy drew parallels between contemporary figures and the founding fathers, portraying Trump as a modern George Washington and Musk as akin to Benjamin Franklin.
“Our founding fathers were the likes of Thomas Jefferson… Benjamin Franklin… I think of Elon Musk as a modern Benjamin Franklin type of figure,” he elaborated. Ramaswamy envisions a renaissance of the 1776 spirit through the leadership of individuals like Trump and Musk, who have achieved significant success in the private sector.
Benjamin Franklin is seen as “one of the leading figures of early American history”. During the American Revolution, he served in the Second Continental Congress and helped draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
He also negotiated the 1783 Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War (1775-83) while some years later Franklin was a delegate to the convention that produced the U.S. Constitution.
Ramaswamy expressed a desire for more entrepreneurial voices in American politics, advocating for leaders who bring a business-oriented perspective to governance. “I think we found different common cause in our love of this country to revitalize that founding spirit,” he said, emphasizing the potential benefits of such a revival for the nation’s future.
On X, the Trump supporter wrote after the debate, “The game is now more obvious than ever: the Democrat Party served up an old man as their sacrificial lamb tonight”.
According to a Washington Post report, Trump reaffirmed in a meeting with top U.S. oil executives last month that he is committed to reversing many of the measures Biden implemented to combat climate change.
In 2023, electric vehicle (EV) sales in the US surged by 40 percent compared to the previous year, reaching nearly 1.2 million vehicles, according to data from Cox Automotive. Additionally, the total EV market share in the US increased from 5.9 to 7.6 percent compared to the previous year.
