The electric vehicle maker Tesla registered a significant decrease drop sales in Germany last month, with registrations plummeting by 64 percent year-over-year, according to data released by the German Federal Motor Transport Association (KBA).
The automaker registered only 1,896 units, representing a 0.8 percent market share for the month. In April, Tesla introduced a 0 percent interest financing program to the German market.
The incentive, also applied to China earlier in the month, became available for Model Y Long Range Dual Motor or Performance variants in the German market. The Model Y Performance begins at €59,990, with the Long Range dual motor variant available at €54,990.
This significant drop follows a year-to-date decline of 41 percent compared to the same period last year. To date, Tesla’s sales for this year represent 26 percent of the total sales recorded last year.

The overall registration of passenger cars in Germany fell to 236,425 units in May, marking declines both month-over-month and year-over-year.
This includes battery electric vehicles (BEVs), which comprised 12.6 percent of new registrations, totaling 29,708 units. This figure represents a substantial 30.6 percent decline compared to May 2023.
Last week, the company has cut the prices of almost all its models in Denmark with discounts ranging between 10,000 to 35,000 Danish krone. (approximately $4,400).
The adjustments, effective immediately, affect the Model 3 and Model Y in different variants with the exception of the recently launched Performance version of the Model 3.
Tesla is preparing to register its ‘Full Self-Driving’ software with authorities in China as the launch of the software in the country gets closer. The company is expected to offer the feature as a monthly subscription later this year in some cities of the country, Reuters reported citing three individuals familiar with the matter.
In late April, Tesla China said it was “difficult to say” when the the technology would be released in the country adding that it “could launch quickly in the not-too-distant future.”
