Xiaomi launched on Thursday its high-performance Ultra variant of the debut model SU7, securing 6,900 pre-orders within 10 minutes. The Chinese tech giant expands now into the premium EV segment after having launched the SU7 sedan in early 2024.

At a launch event, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that the SU7 Ultra is priced from 529,900 yuan ($72,800) and is now available for purchase via the official app. The company aims to position the model as the fastest four-door production car, competing with high-end brands such as Porsche.

Earlier this week, the company’s founder and CEO Lei Jun revealed that the production target for the model this year was 10,000 units.

“The SU7 Ultra is an exceptionally powerful product, and our team is highly confident—we are 90% certain of hitting the 2025 sales target of 10,000 units,” Jun stated. In 2024, Xiaomi delivered more than 135,000 units of the SU7 sedan.

The model features Xiaomi’s Super Three-Motor System as standard, along with a track-spec cooling and braking system and a Nürburgring-tuned chassis

Xiaomi, mainly known as an electronics brand, unveiled its debut EV early last year. The SU7 began deliveries in March, with prices starting at 215,900 yuan ($29,550).

For the first time in December, weekly registrations of Xiaomi’s sedan outperformed Tesla’s Model 3.

In June last year, Tesla started China deliveries of its Model 3 Performance while the revamped Model 3 was launched in late 2023. Registration figures for the sedan marked the strongest week of the year.

In late January, Xiaomi EV announced that it would roll out an over-the-air (OTA) software update on almost 31,000 units manufactured from February 6 to November 26.
