Luxury electric carmaker Lucid Motors opened U.S. orders for the high-end variant of its second model, the Gravity SUV, in November 2024. Although the variant has a starting price of $94,900, the management said on Friday that “a significant portion of the orders have a configured price of above $120,000.”

The company plans to begin producing the Grand Touring variant throughout the year, while the lower-priced $80,000 version is scheduled for production starting in late 2025.

Lucid began initial deliveries of the Gravity SUV to employees, friends, and family members just before the end of 2024. However, the brand has not provided a specific date for the start of customer deliveries in the U.S., Canada, or Saudi Arabia. European deliveries are scheduled for early 2026.

Speaking on the fourth-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Lucid’s interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said the Gravity SUV will be available for test drives at all Lucid showrooms “in the coming weeks.”

Commenting on the order backlog, Winterhoff said they “have exceeded my expectations,” adding that the Gravity Grand Touring variant is significantly outperforming the Air Grand Touring in early order volumes.

“We’ve opened the orders for the Grand Touring in the U.S., and the orders for the Gravity Grand Touring are exceeding the Air Grand Touring by far in the same timeframe,” the executive stated.

Hinting at a ramp-up in production, Winterhoff said, “Mark late Q1 in your calendars. We are working on something truly special.” The executive did not clarify if he was referring to the kick-off of customer deliveries or not.

According to the management, “well more than three-quarters of the Lucid Gravity orders” were from new customers who did not buy the company’s debut model Lucid Air.

Middle East Debut and Pricing

Last week, Lucid debuted the SUV model in Saudi Arabia, marking its introduction to the region. The high-end Grand Touring variant, priced at 487,715 Saudi riyals ($130,000), is available for immediate order in the country. A lower-priced Touring variant will be available “soon,” the company said.

The company expects to produce “a number of” Gravity vehicles there while most production is expected to take place at its Arizona plant.

CEO Replacement

Lucid said on Tuesday that its CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson will be replaced with Marc Winterhoff serving as Interim chief executive while the Board searches for a new chief.
