Electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors has started accepting orders in Canada for its Gravity SUV, the company said in an email to customers on Friday.
Lucid, led by CEO Peter Rawlinson, previously announced pricing details for the model in mid-January, with the base Touring variant starting at C$113,500 (US$80,000). The higher-end Grand Touring version is priced at C$134,500 (US$94,800).
In an email titled “History in the Making,” the company states that “the wait is over” and invites customers to “discover the force of nature that gives new meaning to what an SUV can be.”
Production of the Gravity is already underway at Lucid’s factory in Arizona, with U.S. customer deliveries expected to begin later this month. The company delivered initial units to employees and affiliates before the end of last year.
Lucid said deliveries of the Touring trim are planned for both Canada and the U.S. “late” this year.
The listed Canadian prices include the destination fee, documentation fee, and federal air conditioning tax but exclude the federal luxury tax, sales tax, and provincial levies or fees.
Lower Range, Cheaper Battery
The model will incorporate the latest generation of battery technology supplied by Panasonic, its partner since 2022. The EV maker claims that the battery pack used is “up to 40% smaller than competitors'”
Speaking with InsideEVs, Rawlinson said last week that the carmaker will “quite possibly” launch a variant of a model with 180 miles of range using its upcoming midsize platform. Under the same platform, Lucid will release its direct competitor to Tesla’s Model Y, with prices standing around the $50,000 mark.
“That’s the future, definitely. I wouldn’t say that midsize would be limited to that, but I could see a variant of midsize that’s just got that 10 years from now,” Lucid’s chief stated.
Gravity Deliveries
Once additional units are shipped to showrooms and made available for test drives, the company will begin customer deliveries in the U.S. while European deliveries are planned to start in early 2026.
As exclusively reported by EV last November, Lucid had always planned to begin customer deliveries in 2025. Although the company has not announced an official date for the first customer deliveries, sources told EV last November that the timeline was decided at Gravity’s unveiling in late 2023.
Lucid began pre-production of the Gravity SUV in late July at its Casa Grande, Arizona, factory. On July 31, Rawlinson drove the first pre-production vehicle off the production line.
