Tesla China Sales Drop 11% in January to 63,238 Vehicles

Tesla sold 63,238 vehicles from its Shanghai plant in January, including domestic sales and exports, according to preliminary data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released on Friday.

The figure marks an 11.5% decline from 71,447 units in January 2023 and a 32.6% drop from 93,766 units in December.

Between January 20 and February 2, Tesla registered 13,400 vehicles, including 10,000 Model Y SUVs and 3,400 Model 3 sedans.The company is in the midst of a production and delivery transition for its refreshed Model Y, which is set to begin global deliveries in March.

Overall, the CPCA estimated that new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers selling more than 10,000 units per month collectively recorded 856,000 sales in January. Total NEV wholesale sales in China for the month are projected to reach 900,000 units, the association said.

Tesla’s UK vehicle registrations dropped 7.78% in January to 1,458 units.

Registrations in Germany fell 59.5% year over year in January to 1,277 units. In France, Tesla registered 1,141 vehicles last month, down 63% from 3,118 in January 2024. In the Netherlands, registrations fell 42% to 927 units.

In the U.S., registrations dropped 10% year over year in January, according to Motor Intelligence estimates released on Tuesday. The company registered 48,500 vehicles, down from the 53,830 recorded a year ago.

California New Car Dealers Association said on Monday that registrations in the state fell 12% from January 2024.
