Tech giant and EV maker Xiaomi said on Friday it is releasing a new over the air software update on 30,931 SU7 sedans to address a potential defect in its smart parking feature.
The recall, effective immediately, involves vehicles manufactured between February 6 and November 26, 2024, according to a filing with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).
“If your vehicle is included in the recall plan, there is no need to panic. Simply upgrade via OTA after receiving the notification,” Xiaomi Group’s Public Relations General Manager Wang Hua said in a statement posted on social media.
Screenshots shared by users on social media confirmed that Xiaomi’s service team clarified there are no hardware-related issues involved, and the recall strictly pertains to the software functionality of the smart parking system.
This is Xiaomi’s first major recall since the company entered the electric vehicle market.
The founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, has recently commented on the Model Y launch. Jun described it as “also a good choice” for consumers who cannot wait for Xiaomi’s upcoming SUV.
Shortly after, the executive shared a picture of Xiaomi’s upcoming SUV, which will rival the Model Y in the Chinese market, and wrote, “For those considering buying an SUV, if it’s not urgent, you can wait… .”
Answered to a comment under the post, Xiaomi’s founder named Tesla Model Y “also a good choice,” for buyers who cannot wait until the company starts delivering its SUV in June/ July.
“If it’s particularly urgent and you can’t wait for the Xiaomi YU7, the Tesla Model Y is also a good choice,” Jun said.
Last month, Xiaomi made a filing for a dual-motor version of the YU7. Its launch is expected to be in June or July.
Earlier this month, Xiaomi’s single-motor variant, equipped with BYD’s LFP batteries, appeared in the latest catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Meanwhile, the dual-motor version, filed last month, is listed with lithium-ion ternary batteries supplied by CATL.
