Electric carmaker Nio began rolling out its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2.4.0 of the Banyan operating system, to European customers on Wednesday.

The update will bring more than 50 new features and improvements including a new driving mode for the ET5 and Et5 Touring models. Called ‘EP Mode,’ the driving mode is already available in the Chinese market and is based on Nio’s electric supercar EP9.

“It optimizes the vehicle’s driving dynamics and digital experience to provide a more responsive, sportier performance for an exhilarating drive,” according to the EV maker. The driving mode includes a dedicated ‘EP sound wave’ and ambient lighting.

The 2.4.0 version includes the one-pedal drive feature, which simplifies braking in traffic, for the EL6 and EL8 SUV models.

Regarding battery preconditioning, drivers will now receive indicator alerts when they need to precondition it for efficient fast charging. The update also enables the charge port to be opened with a double-click of the trunk button on the key fob.

In navigation, Nio has added visual aids like blue trajectory lines for parking maneuvers and drivers can now watch a tutorial about its assisted driving software ‘Nio Pilot’.

Additionally, drivers can now report problematic driving scenarios by pressing and holding the left button on the steering wheel. This action automatically records relevant data, which is then sent directly to Nio’s product team in Europe.

Nio’s in-car voice assistant NOMI AI assistant includes three AI-powered features now an audible user manual while showing the answers on the car’s main screen and the option to personalize interactions by adding a nickname.

The update also includes upgrades to the Nio app, such as notifications for charging status, and a “Previous Drive Settings” feature that allows drivers to return to their preferred configurations.

As reported last week, in China, the company is preparing to release a new version of its operating system (OS) Banyan to all customers on Friday, January 10. The 3.1.0 version began rolling out to 1,800 Pilot Group users last week.

The update emphasizes three key areas: smart driving, the in-car AI voice assistant NOMI, and user experience (UX)/user interface (UI) enhancements.

Last August, Nio had released the 3.0.0 version of the OS bringing five major upgrades to all the second-generation vehicles in China.
