After having unveiled its debut model in May, Nio’s sub-brand Onvo is preparing to launch another two family-oriented SUVs in 2025. In a media briefing held in Shanghai on Thursday, the company’s founder and CEO William Li revealed that deliveries will start in the third and in the fourth quarter of the year.

The management reiterated on Wednesday that it aims to deliver over 10,000 vehicles this month and continue ramping up production next year to reach 20,000 units by March. In November, Onvo delivered 5,082 vehicles, up 17.6% from the 4,319 units recorded in October.

One of the fully electric SUVs that Onvo will launch next year will be a six-seater SUV aimed at bigger families while the other one will be another five-seater SUV, larger than the brand’s model L60 — which started being delivered in China on September 28.

Data shared by automotive bloggers on Weibo earlier this week showed that Onvo registered 1,400 vehicles in China between December 2 and 8, a 22% drop compared to the 1,800 units registered in late November when the brand hit a new production rate record.

Supply Chain Issues

As reported on Monday, Onvo‘s head of user and service operations Xia Qinghua said the company continues to address supply and demand challenges for batteries and is now prioritizing the batteries it receives for vehicle deliveries.

The company did not disclose the reasons for the challenges, but Citi analyst Jeff Chung, citing information from Nio’s management, revealed that the issue stemmed from battery supply constraints. BYD was only able to supply 5,000 to 6,000 units per month in October and November.

Battery Swapping Network

Onvo executive said on Monday that while over 1,000 stations have been prepared for Onvo use, only around 700 to 800 are currently operational with Onvo-compatible batteries “primarily due to limited battery production capacity at the moment.

At the media briefing, William Li said that Onvo customers will be able to use 2,000 battery swap stations across China starting in April next year.

“We prioritize fulfilling long-pending vehicle orders by allocating batteries for deliveries first. However, efforts to equip battery swap stations with Onvo-compatible batteries will accelerate in the future,” the executive added in a video statement shared on Monday.
