Nio opened its first battery swap station in Belgium on Thursday, marking the 59th in Europe. Located near Antwerp, it is the company’s first station in a country where its vehicles are not yet available for sale.

The station in Belgium was initially announced in late September by the company’s head of Power, Kajsa Sognefur.

“Located in Edegem, it is strategically positioned along the E19 near Antwerp. Many Dutch users travel on the E19 for business or holiday trips to the south, with Edegem conveniently situated along the route,” Nio stated on LinkedIn. “A battery swap here is now enough to drive straight to Paris without any stops.”

The Shanghai-based EV maker completed 100,000 battery swaps in Europe last month, about 20 months after launching its initial station in Norway, the first outside China.

Earlier this month, Nio said that customers in four of its five European markets will now be able to upgrade their car’s battery on a monthly basis. The new option allows users to switch from the standard 75 kWh battery to a 100 kWh battery at the company’s battery swap stations.

In China, the company is about to reach 60 million battery swaps provided in the last six years as it enters mass production at its recently opened factory in Wuhan. This Thursday, Nio opened eleven new battery swap stations in China and has now a total of 2,779 across the country.

In July, Nio reached 50 battery swap stations in Europe and 19 electric vehicle charging stations across its five European countries: Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Currently, the company has 59 stations in Europe.

Additionally, customers have access to more than 600,000 third-party charging piles throughout Europe.

Nio shares closed 2.10% lower on Wednesday at $4.67. Year to date, the stock has lost about 49% of its value.
