Several revamped Tesla Model 3 vehicles, retrofitted for police use, were seen being transported in France on Monday, indicating that French law enforcement is expanding its electric vehicle fleet.

In the country, both the Municipal and the National Police have been gradually adding electric models to their fleet which already includes the  Kangoo E-Tech electric van from the French carmaker Renault and MG’s model MG4, a brand owned by China’s SAIC Motor.

Earlier this year, a Tesla Model Y with official Municipal Police markings was spotted charging at a Supercharger station.

France reported 1,741 Tesla sales in October, representing a 1.3% market share, with Tesla capturing 8.3% of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, which accounts for 15.4% of total market penetration, according to Rolan Pircher’s post on X.

In the United States, the Irvine Police Department recently unveiled the world’s first in-service Tesla Cybertruck. The vehicle, part of the department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) unit, is equipped for emergency response.

In July, South Pasadena, California, became the first city worldwide to deploy an all-electric police fleet composed entirely of Teslas. The fleet includes 20 vehicles, with 10 Model Ys assigned to patrol duties and 10 Model 3s used for administrative tasks.

“This is important, particularly in the Los Angeles area, which still has the most unhealthy air in the nation. We hope other police departments in the region and across the state will make the switch as well,” said Michael Cacciotti, a city councilmember and regional air quality official, as originally reported by AP.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Monday that the state plans to reboot its incentives for electric vehicle (EV) adoption as President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to eliminate the federal EV tax credit after taking office in January.

However, the proposed state incentives, which are currently under negotiation, are expected to include a market-cap limitation that would exclude Tesla, despite it being the only automaker producing vehicles in California.
