Premium EV maker Lucid Motors will start deliveries of its second model, the Lucid Gravity, next year. Despite an official date is not yet communicated, sources familiar with the matter told EV that the company has decided to begin deliveries in 2025 since the model’s unveil event in November 2023.

Revealed at the LA Auto Show held in November 2023, the pre-production of the SUV with space for up to seven adults started in late July at Lucid‘s factory in Casa Grande, Arizona. On the last day of that month, the company’s CEO Peter Rawlinson drove the first pre-production vehicle off the production line.

On October 29, the company said, for the first time, that the highly-anticipated $80,000 variant of the Lucid Gravity was actually not coming that soon.

While announcing that orders in the US would open about one week later, the company said the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring — priced from $94,900 — “is scheduled to begin production in late 2024 and the Lucid Gravity Touring is planned for late 2025, with pricing starting at $79,900.”

At the LA Auto Show exactly one year ago, Lucid said Gravity would be “competitively priced in the full-size premium SUV category with an expected starting price under $80,000” adding that production was expected “to begin in late 2024.”

“They knew they would not launch with the $80,000 version when they made the claim in November last year,” one of the sources told EV referring to the Gravity’s unveiling event at the LA Auto Show.

In a note, the company stated that the pricing applied exclusively to the U.S. market, with the $80,000 figure excluding “tax, title, license, options, destination, and other fees,” while addmiting that the pricing was “subject to change.”

To date, the company’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, has not disclosed any order numbers or provided a timeline for the first vehicle deliveries.

Last week, Peter Rawlinson said that production of the Gravity SUV is set to begin “imminently” adding that Lucid would be “really the most immune” EV maker in case the $7,500 EV tax credit is eliminated.

Shares of electric vehicle maker hit a new all-time low last Friday at $1.93, extending year to date losses to about 53%.

Lucid’s CEO has recently criticized the quality of electric vehicles available in the U.S., stating that many Americans have found their experiences with EVs underwhelming.
