Tesla unveiled on Thursday its new V4 Supercharger cabinet, designed to deliver ultra-fast charging speeds, capable of delivering up to 500 kilowatts for passenger vehicles and 1.2 megawatts for its electric Semi truck. It supports 400V-1000V vehicle architectures, including 30% faster charging for the Cybertruck model.
Tesla, which launched its first Supercharger with a 90kW charging capacity in 2012, has consistently upgraded its infrastructure to accommodate rising demand and improve the charging experience.
The V4 Cabinet supports vehicle architectures from 400V to 1000V, enabling faster charging times across Tesla’s lineup, including an estimated 30% faster charge rate for the upcoming Cybertruck. Tesla’s popular “S3XY” vehicles (Models S, 3, X, and Y) will continue to see charging speeds of up to 250kW, allowing drivers to add as much as 200 miles of range within 15 minutes.
Tesla noted that each V4 Cabinet can power up to eight charging posts, doubling the charging station density per cabinet and reducing site complexity. This optimized design allows for quicker Supercharger deployments, which the company aims to roll out starting in 2025.
In 2023, the company introduced the V4 Supercharger Post, which enhanced charging accessibility for all electric vehicle (EV) models. The newly revealed V4 Cabinet, however, sets a new standard with its high-power capabilities and advanced features, according to Tesla.
Tesla’s V4 Cabinet achieves three times the power density of previous models, which Tesla claims will reduce costs and boost reliability.
The first V4 Cabinet installations are now entering the permitting phase, with initial site openings planned for next year.
Tesla announced earlier today that it is bringing its Cybercab on a tour across six European capitals between next week and the year end.
Musk has recently described the model as “not just a revolutionary design, but a revolution in manufacturing,” adding that its production line will achieve “half an order of magnitude better” efficiency than normal car assembly lines.
Earlier this week, Deutsche Bank analyst Edison Yu said the stock price rally that followed Trump’s presidential election victory “has surprised Deutsche Bank (and many investors).” The firm reiterated a Buy rating and $295.00 price target on the stock.
