Luxury electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors has started rolling out a new software improving its driver assistance — especially for Canada-based customers — navigation, sound quality, and the charging experience.

For drivers in Canada, Lucid‘s DreamDrive Pro now offers Lane Change Assist, which automates lane changes when Highway Assist is active. The update also introduces Active Curve Speed Control, which adjusts speed on curved roads, and Extended Stop and Go, enhancing auto-resume in heavy traffic.

The company’s advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) DreamDrive Pro was unveiled in early 2022 featuring a 32-sensor suite consisting of 14 cameras, 1 LiDAR, 5 radar, and 12 ultrasonic units.

A new driver assistance feature called “Curb Rash Alert” which warns drivers of potential curb impacts at low speeds. In the releasing notes, the EV maker warns that the feature provides distance information and audio alerts but does not intervene in steering or braking, leaving drivers responsible for avoiding curbs.

A mute/unmute icon for navigation instructions has been made permanently visible, and audio guidance has been simplified for cases where the next step involves continuing on a road or entering a highway.

The new software update, version 2.5.0, includes adjustments to the navigation system, which now displays traffic light and stop sign indicators on the map when a route is active.

The update addresses also issues with Electrify America’s Plug&Charge charging service, “aiming to make charging sessions smoother.” The Scheduled Charging feature now retains settings even if the vehicle is reconnected to the charger before a planned session begins.

Audio system improvements include refined sound quality at low volumes and more precise volume controls. Lucid has also updated its Surreal Sound Pro Premium Audio System to improve bass response and audio accuracy; some vehicles may require a minor hardware adjustment, available at no cost, according to the EV maker.

Additional updates include expanded language support for German on the Lucid Assistant, an “Off” setting for regenerative braking that reverts to “Standard” after restarting, and a smoother power-closing function for the trunk.

The company’s CEO Peter Rawlinson has recently criticized the quality of electric vehicles available in the U.S., stating that many Americans’ experiences with EVs have been underwhelming.

Regarding Lucid‘s upcoming model, the SUV Gravity, Rawlinson claims it will offer a well-rounded blend of range, performance, space, and handling.

The production strategy for Gravity will see a “gradual” ramp-up through 2025, with high-volume output anticipated in 2026, according to the chief executive.

“It will ramp up gradually through [20]25… we’ve got to get the quality right, and really it’s going to, it’s going to run into 26 before we start really, really getting to high volume,” Rawlinson said.

Looking further ahead, the company plans to introduce a midsize SUV in late 2026 with a target price “around $48,000,” aimed at competing with Tesla’s forthcoming revamped Model Y which is expected to be unveiled in early next year.
