AeroHT, a subsidiary of Chinese electric vehicle maker XPeng, executed the world’s first public flight of its modular flying car, the “Land Carrier,” at the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition.
Pre-sales for the Land Carrier model will open in December, XPeng’s founder and CEO Xiaopeng He revealed earlier this month at the company’s annual AI Day.
The fully automated demonstration showcased the car’s flying and carrier modules autonomously separating and reconnecting, offering a new concept in the development of flying cars.
At the China Airshow, the company performed four key maneuvers, including “low-altitude straight-line acceleration,” “spiral ascent,” “steady altitude descent,” and “precise landing.”
XPeng’s flying car manufacturing facility, currently under construction, is set to have an annual capacity of 10,000 units. The company’s Huangpu factory is scheduled to be completed by July 31, with production vehicles expected to begin rolling off the line shortly after.
Large-scale deliveries are targeted to begin in 2026, with prices anticipated to be under 2 million yuan ($274,000).
The model will primarily be used for restricted-scenario flight experiences and public service applications, while phase two of XPeng’s plan will focus on a high-speed, long-range eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft to address air transportation needs in standard scenarios.
In the third phase, the company aims to launch “an integrated land-air flying car to achieve true door-to-door, end-to-end 3D urban transportation.”
Separately, XPeng has expanded into the Nepalese market, opening its first showroom in Kathmandu and launching its entry-level SUV, the G6.
