On Wednesday, as the world celebrates International Family Day, Nio is set to officially launch its subbrand Onvo, with a strong focus on families. The event will be live-streamed on social media at 7:30 a.m. eastern time.
A few hours before the event, the brand stated on Weibo that the pre-orders for the Coupe SUV L60 would open immediately after the debut event.
“Onvo brand launch, officially opened tonight at 19:30! The first model Ledo L60 will be available for booking at its debut! Make a reservation and lock in the Onvo live broadcasting room. Witness the Ledo L60 define the new standard of the family car!”
In a statement on the Nio app earlier today, CEO William Li announced that customers purchasing the Onvo L60 will receive 30,000 points upon delivery, while ES8 Founder Edition users will enjoy 50,000 points upon delivery.
Alan Tiecheng, former Vice President of Marketing at Disney and General Manager for WeWork in China, will lead Onvo’s operations. Joining him is Raul Pires, who takes the role of Vice President of Design for the subbrand.
Tiecheng, who joined Nio in July 2021 as Vice President for a “New Strategic Business”, has been instrumental in preparing for the launch of what was initially known as “Alps”, the codename for Onvo, as reported by EV on May 10, 2022.
Pires brings extensive experience, having served as Head of Exterior Design at Bentley for 12 years, followed by a stint as Head of Design at Italdesign from 2011 until early 2013. He moved to Nio in mid-2022 as VP Head of Global Design for Onvo.
CEO William Li reiterated Onvo’s focus on families, emphasizing that the brand’s models will have a lower average selling price, which he believes will “undoubtedly accelerate the arrival of the next milestone of one million vehicles”.
During the Beijing Auto Show, Nio CEO faced questions about the impact of the SU7 on the sales of the L60.
“Onvo‘s positioning is clear, it’s aimed at the family market. While Xiaomi’s SU7 is expected to perform well, our Onvo L60 will have better sales,” Nio CEO stated as reported by local media.
According to the chief executive, the first product will be launched in the third quarter with mass deliveries beginning in the last quarter of the year.
William Li has previously stated that the model is targeting the Tesla Model Y while having a bill of materials (BOM) ten percent lower.
According to a transcript of a media Q&A shared by the automotive blogger “钢炮同学啊“, Nio partners Changan and Geely will use the same battery pack as Onvo.
“Changan and Geely will share Onvo‘s battery pack, which Lotus doesn’t use. In the future, there will be an exclusive network for Nio users. Onvo‘s battery swapping stations are also being deployed,” Nio founder said.
